One piece of unique equipment to Smith veterinary Hospital is the acquisition of a video otoscope. This fiberoptic scope allows the user to view the ear canal on a monitor while explaining the problem with the ear directly to the client. This scope allows the user to see directly to the ear drum and take still and video pictures of the canal. These images can later be used to explain a problem to a client or to identify the progress that is being made with therapy. While visualizing the ear canal, any foreign bodies, wax, or masses can be removed using the operating channel of the scope. This is but one the many diagnostic tools available to the veterinary staff at Smith Veterinary Hospital.
“Here we used the video otoscope to diagnose a tumor in the ear canal of a cat. We were able to surgically remove the tumor that same day.”
